RSSC Explorer 2/7/24-2/21/2024

February

Pros: It is truly all inclusive, so there are no surprise charges unless you decide to go on a private tour, for example

Cons: It' s hard to find something wrong with all inclusive luxury. But I will say that the internet was slow which bothered a lot of people.

Recommended: No

The ports in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and the Phillippines are fascinating and beautiful. Learning about new cultures and religions is always a good thing to open up our minds. There were many types of tours available to experience these countries in different ways. The cabins are large and very comfortable, even at the entry level. The entertainment was outstanding and the food delicious.

Regent Seven Seas Explorer

October

Pros: Excellent overall value

Cons: Shore Excursions are lacking

Recommended: No

The Seven Seas Explorer offers three specialty restaurants that are exquisite: Prime Seven which offers steaks, Pacific Rim which offers Asian Fusion, and Chartreuse which offers nouveaux French. The service and food quality is over the top.

Japan cruise, 2023

October

Pros: service, food, room, itinerary, guest speaker, evening shows, laundry service

Cons: wine selection, tours, evening shows

Recommended: No

The ship was clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious, the speaker was informative and interactive, the shows were very entertaining and the laundry service was a valuable asset. Some things Regency could improve is the wine selection. The cruise provides access to pretty much a full bar, but the selection of wines only include a couple that are of a high enough quality to drink. Many of the offerings, to me, were not enjoyable. The evening shows were very good, but they started at 9:30 pm. They ended very late, especially if you had a morning excursion. Suggest a 8:30 pm or maybe even a 9:00 pm start. The tour guides fell short, especially when there was a 1 hr or 1-1/2 hr drive to your destination. Limited information, limited ability to communicate in understandable english. Most of the destinations had printed material once you arrived that would have been very helpful and useful if distributed to the passengers on the bus during the drive out from the ship. Also, the tour guides did not use "whispers" to communicate when on tour, so if you weren't standing next to the guide, you had no idea what they were saying. You were pretty much dropped off and left to figure out everything on your own. One exception, our particular tour guide in S. Korea (Helena) was EXCELLENT.

Regent Experience

September

Pros: Ship is elegant and beautiful throughout

Cons: Food was inconsistent and shore excursions not well planned for the demographic of the ship's passengers.

Recommended: Yes

The description of the excursions that was presented on-line was wrong and not correctly described by on-board staff to make it clear just how difficult some of the excursions were. Cooking classes were exceptional. Breakfast food portions in the main dining room were very small and the service was inconsistent. Best restaurant was Chartreuse where food was excellent, and service was outstanding.

Alaska's Inside Passage

August

Pros: our first time on ship was comfortable in size & design. Staff & crew were friendly, knowledgeable, & helpful. Steward, waitresses, & waiters & maitre'ds were attentive & helpful too. Food was delicious in all public areas as well as specialty restaurants. Able to enjoy lunch at 2 specialty restaurants. Shore excursions were enjoyable & enriching.

Cons: There was no tour of ship or even a video about different areas. Map was helpful. Would liked overview of ports of call & excursions listed.

Recommended: Yes

The week of Inside Passage Cruise to Alaska was awesome. Ports of call were enjoyable & unique in their own way. Enjoyed the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, Salmon bake, crab fest & Alaskan wildlife. Tour guides in each port were informative & "experts" in their field. Our stay in Juneau was short; could hv shortened stay in Skagway. However, realize & understand the size & scope of Alaska so Capt knows best. Hopefully, will be able to return to revisit Alaska & explore more of "last frontier"! MAHALO & ALOHA to crew & staff of Seven Seas Explorer for many memorable memories.

Explorer to Alaska

July

Pros: Staff, shore excursions, food, lectures, evening entertainment/shows, cabin quality

Cons: Internet and better selection of complementary wines

Recommended: No

The service level is fantastic, the evening shows were high quality for this size of ship, the cabins are spacious and luxurious, the spa is excellent and large, and the food is some of the best I've had at sea. In addition, the shore excursions were well-organized and were all high quality. Additional praise must be given to the onboard lecturer as well. I'm not normally one for onboard lectures, but I was absolutely captivated by his presentation on humpback whales and loved his commentary over the loudspeaker when we went to Hubbard Glacier. Negatives are rare, but the main thing that could use some improvement is the "complementary" wifi. Only one device can use it at a time (Concierge categories and higher get 4 devices) through a single log-in per cabin and the speed/quality is not acceptable for most activities, especially not work. Thankfully, you can upgrade the speed for $10 extra per day, but paying for an extra device would be quite expensive. The only other area of improvement was in the complementary wine selection. It was hit and miss. There were 2-3 wines I liked, but the rest left a bit to be desired. Considering the top shelf spirits included, you expect a little more investment in the wine selection. To their credit, the wines offered are still better than many other cruise lines, but it could still be improved considering the price point of the cruise line.

Disappointed

July

Pros: Glitzy interiors

Cons: Too expensive for what I received

Recommended: No

I am assuming since this my first cruise with Regent that I didn’t get some benefits afforded me in other cruises I have taken in the past.
