Roskilde holds the history of the ancient Viking Era and is home to giant rock music festival, the Roskilde Festival. It sits in West Zealand, Denmark and west of Copenhagen. Roskilde was also the central hub for land and sea trade routes. This ancient city that means “Ro’s Spring” was Denmark’s capital for centuries (11th century – 1443). There are natural springs on the slope down towards the harbor. One powerful spring in particular is Maglekilde filling 15,000 liters per hour and is protected by a wellhouse built in 1927.
